Seven television stations serving the Birmingham, Ala., television market today began broadcasting with NextGen TV, also known as NextGen TV.
Switching on the new transmission standard are Sinclair Broadcast Group’s WABM (ABC) and WTTO (CW), Cunningham Broadcasting’s WDBB (CW), Nexstar Television’s WIAT (CBS), Gray Television’s WBRC (Fox), Hearst Television’s WVTM (NBC) and Howard Stirk Holdings’ WSES (Heroes & Icons).
Today’s launch in Birmingham follows a decade of development and months of planning and preparation by the local stations. WTTO and WSES have converted to ATSC 3.0 transmissions. Those stations will broadcast their own programming, as well as the programming of the other participating stations, in NextGen TV format.
